Sunday July 28
What happened to Sue? Yes, guessed it, Delhi Belly. I had rebounded from the migraine and had my nice day at the Cultural Resource Center Madurai. I ate there,
but not much. I really had lost my appetite, even for Sprite. Yes, it is true.
Yesterday we traveled all day with two flights, first to Chennai and then to Kolkatta.
couldn't eat at all yesterday. Thank goodness I made it to the hotel. If you have to suffer, you might as well be at the Oberoi Grand Hotel. http://www.oberoihotels.com/oberoi_kolkata/
I got up this morning and tried to eat, no go. We were supposed to start our Kolkatta program with a lecture and a walking tour and one other woman and I had to opt out for the same reason. I have spent the day in bed Looking up at a Mughal, imagining his sword turning around in my bowels and occasionally making sharp jabs just to make it worse.
I had numerous members of the Oberoi staff phoning and coming to the door asking if I wanted food, medicine, etc. The woman from housekeeping brought me a bouquet and a plate of fruit. Finally had to put my do not disturb sign on the door. I took my Cipro and have slept all day and am going back to sleep now. I am depleted.
Three weeks is a good length for a trip away from home and I knew five and a half weeks would be pushing it. My roommate said things seemed to be deteriorating for everyone when they hit the afternoon and free time in the afternoon. It's very humid and really miserable outside. She said people couldn't come to agreement
on plans, very crabby. An afternoon at this hotel and for those who can eat, some plain food, should help everyone regain momentum.
This must be "The Wall". I haven't been able to take my malaria pills with my stomach so upset. They are so tough to take over the long hall some people quit taking them weeks ago. Ahhhh. It is hard to feel sorry for yourself when you see children and families sleeping on the streets. I am "floating through"my setback. Going back to sleep now,and hoping to be on track tomorrow. I plan on getting the most out of the time left.
