Share your Dabba!

The office workers in Mumbai receive a hot packed lunch everyday that their wives and mothers cook and pack for them each morning.  Dabba  Walla's pick up these boxes in the suburbs and bring them to the train station. From, there they travel in special cars to a central location in Mumbai.  They are then distributed by another Walla who delivers to the offices and places them outside the office door for a 1:00 lunch. When workers have extra food, which most do, they put a red sticker on their box and it goes to a food kitchen to be shared with someone in need.  The box is back to the home by the end of the day ready to be used again.  Many people are sharing their Dabba because its a small way people can help someone in need.  I can't remember how many of these lunches are distributed by the Walla's but it is an amazing number and they have only lost a box once.

Wow! That's an amazingly complex way to get your home-cooked lunch. It does sound like it provides employment for many people. Can you imagine your lunch at school being delivered in that fashion....:) no.
