Monday July 15.
We visited St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, for students ages 18 to 20. It is a
Jesuit College. A prayer from the Vedas was sung as an innvocation. It was a prayer of peace for body, mind and soul with a message to follow the path of truth. The Goal of this school is to provide a well-rounded education for students. It is affiliated with University of Mumbai which is a State institution. About 800,000 students are under the umbrella of the U. Of Mumbai. Critical thinking is a focus of this college. Faculty are encouraged to study in USA long or short term. Education today must be international so students in India and USA can interact peacefully and successfully in global arena. Students travel study in USA for 10 days to broaden perspective. We had three professors speak to us about Bollywood, economics, and religious practices and symbols. Interesting! Http://xavier's.edu
We then went to the most prestigious college preparatory school in India, Cathedral And John Connon School. We attended student debates which were excellent. There are 2000 seventeen year olds at this "college".They were being judged by two attorneys. I am going to steal a topic or two for my AP classes. What do you think about this prompt? Does the United Nations belong on the ash heap of history? Consider this from the viewpoint of people in the developing world! Great topic and the students only received forty minutes as teams of three to frame their arguments. I was impressed. Most of the students from this school get into top colleges in India or study in American universities.

It sure seems like you are seeing some great education programs! What percent of children complete high school? And do families have to pay for high school or college? Love reading your thoughts!!!!
