Saturday July 14 Mumbai Slum Life
Here we are in Mumbai, financial capital and most populous city in India. They have some traffic regulations here though, no auto-rickshaws (Mumbai's term for Tuk Tuk) for one. Street crossing is less exciting than in Delhi. Mumbai is in the state of Maharashtra. The cuisine is terrific here! Lots of garlic, ginger, turmeric and coriander and no cumin. I think I experienced cumin overload in Delhi. Mumbai was an archipelago of eight islands, but land has been reclaimed and it is one area. It is very tropical, cool today at 80 degrees with very high humidity. Twenty-percent of the people are very rich, as in very, very. At least thirty-percent live in the slums and in the same ballpark as slum dwellers are the middle class. There is also a huge fishing village by our hotel which is a slum with boats out front. We are on the Arabian Sea! http://www.csia.in/mumbaimasala/aboutmumbai.aspx
